CBCEW » Environment » » Conference on Sustainable Living

by Ellen Teague

‘Treasure in the field – Spiritual capital and sustainable living’ is the title of Christian Ecology Link’s 30th anniversary conference in Bristol on Saturday 10 March.

Keynote speaker in the morning will be Jonathon Porritt, Founder of Forum for the Future, Christian Ecology Link Patron, and author of a number of books on the environment. He was co-director of the Prince of Wales’ Business and Sustainability Programme and chair of the UK Sustainable Development Commission between 2000 and 2009.

Responses will be given by Tim Gorringe, Professor of Theology at Exeter University and Paul Bodenham, Chair of Christian Ecology Link and a member of the Board of Operation Noah. The session will be chaired by Ellen Teague of the Columban JPIC Team.

According to Christian Ecology Link: ‘We are spending the natural capital on which our children depend – not to mention the other species in our trust. Whether oil, metal, water or nutrients, it’s time to ‘leave it in the ground’ and become treasurers, not consumers, of the earth. That requires investing in the source of ultimate value: spiritual capital. The conference aims to explore sustainable ways of living that will heal our world.’
