50th Anniversary of Nostra Aetate and the Good Friday Prayer

The Bishops’ Conference requests that the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei review the prayer Pro Conversione Iudaeorum, in the Solemn Liturgy of Good Friday, in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, in the light of the understanding in Nostra Aetate of the relationship between the Catholic Church and Judaism.

Archbishop Kevin McDonald, Chair of the Bishops’ Committee for Catholic-Jewish Relations, issued a note of clarification on the Good Friday Prayer.

Department for Evangelisation and Catechesis – Outreach Work

The bishops ask the Department for Evangelisation and Catechesis to work in partnership with others in order to gain a more comprehensive profile of the Catholic population, particularly in regard to disaffiliation or conversion. In addition, the Department will look at ways of developing a strategic outreach to those who identify themselves as having no religion, including further reflection and understanding of this large number of people, and the rich and complex reality of their experience.

Day for Life

The Bishops’ Conference agrees that the Day for Life Fund should, in future, include a small grants fund, specifically to support local projects which are within the scope of the Day for Life collection and have the endorsement of the diocesan bishop. Decisions on all Day for Life grant applications will continue to be made by the Bishops of the Department for Christian Responsibility and Citizenship.

Revised Grail Psalter

The Bishops’ Conference supports the work of the International Commission on English in the Liturgy (ICEL) in preparing a revision of the Liturgy of the Hours. This will include the use of the Revised Grail Psalter (2010) in future editions of the Liturgy of the Hours in England and Wales.
