“I am saddened by the news of the death of Bishop Alexander. I offer condolences to the people of the Diocese of Clifton and to its present bishop, Bishop Lang. Bishop Alexander served the Diocese wholeheartedly as both bishop and priest. There was nothing he loved more than being with the people of his diocese, and especially with the children at school. He will be sorely missed. He was also an important member of the Bishops’ Conference for so many years, contributing with great wisdom and wit. Indeed, many will remember his wonderful sense of humour which emerged not only in conversation but in messages and greetings. He had a real joy in the Lord. Now, after a long and faithful life, I trust that he is full of that joy in the presence of the Lord, Himself. May he rest in peace.”
