On 15 January 2011, the Personal Ordiariate of Our Lady of Walsingham was erected in England and Wales for groups of Anglican faithful and their clergy who wish to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. The Ordinariate was placed under the patronage of Blessed John Henry Newman.
The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI nominated Reverend Keith Newton as the first Ordinary of the Ordinariate.
Fr Newton was introduced to the assembled media at a press conference at the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales on 17 January 2011.
Note: the audio levels have been boosted for the journalists’ questions but the microphone was facing the speakers: Fr Keith Newton, Bishop Alan Hopes (Auxiliary, Westminster) and Fr Marcus Stock, General Secretary, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales.
