Refugee Week 2025 is celebrated between 16-22 June. The theme this year is "Community as a Superpower".
16 – 22 June 2025
The theme for this year’s Refugee Week is Community as a Superpower.
Refugee Week is the world’s largest arts & culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. It was founded in 1998 and is held every year around the UN World Refugee Day (20 June). You can find out more at: refugeeweek.org.uk
Refugee Week offers us a prayerful opportunity to reflect on the struggles of refugees and to stand in faithful solidarity with those seeking safety, dignity, and a place to call home.
Many Catholic parishes and organisations are taking part in this important celebration. CSAN, the official agency of the Bishops’ Conference for domestic social action, has a range of resources around this year’s theme of compassion, which can be found at: https://www.csan.org.uk/news/refugee-week-2025-community-as-a-superpower/
The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) also has information on events to mark Refugee Week here: https://www.jrsuk.net/refugee-week/
As part of Refugee Week, a special lecture will be held in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Brixton on Friday, 20th June at 7:00pm on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking. This is not a ticketed event, all are welcome.
The lecture will be delivered by Rev. Fr. Mark Odion, an advocate against human trafficking.
Let us raise awareness, stand against exploitation, and promote justice. “Learn to do good; seek justice, rescue the oppressed…” Isaiah 1:17. Together, we can make a difference.
