March’s At the Foot of the Cross podcast has somehow found its way into the middle of the month where it should be. As such, our Director of Mission and regular guest Abbot Hugh Allan has the opportunity to offer a few words on Laetare Sunday (15 March). Laetare is Latin for ‘rejoice’ and on Laetare Sunday our priests vest in rose (not pink) for the second and final time in the Liturgical calendar year – once in the middle of Advent, Gaudete Sunday, and on this occasion in the middle of Lent.
We then briefly look ahead to Holy Week and the Sacred Triduum before discussing the Bishops’ April plenary meeting that takes place this year in Rome at the Venerable English College’s summer villa, Palazzola. This is more of a retreat, on-going formation meeting but there will be some plenary business to report next month.
Abbot Hugh concludes his contribution with three ‘Points for Prayer’ and, as you might imagine with the turmoil and chaos in the world right now, praying for peace, justice and reconciliation features highly.
Our Scripture slot with Fleur Dorrell, our Biblical Apostolate Manager, takes a fascinating look at Our Lady, Mary, in Scripture and Christian art. There is a particular focus on the great feast of the Annunciation, that we celebrate this year on 25 March.
Finally, our Bishop slot is taken by Bishop Jim Curry – Lead Bishop for the Holy Land for the Bishops’ Conference. The 10-minute audio segment is a single edit of the Bishop’s contributions to a Middle East Analysis podcast special on the war in Iran and the impact on the Holy Land and wider region.
