Bishop Emeritus of Plymouth

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear Bishop Christopher Budd, the retired bishop for the Diocese of Plymouth.

Bishop Christopher died in the early hours of this morning, 01 April 2023, at his home in Lyme Regis.  He was 85.

The Right Reverend Christopher Budd was the Bishop Emeritus of Plymouth. Born in Romford, Essex, in 1937, Bishop Budd was ordained to the priesthood in July 1962.

He was ordained bishop in Plymouth Cathedral on 15 January 1986.

He was a member of the Bishops’ Conference Department for Social Justice.

Bishop Budd was Bishop of Plymouth from 15 January 1986 to 9 November 2013.
