Prayers

Let us pray for the Jewish people, the first to hear the word of God, that they may continue to grow in the love of his name and in faithfulness to his covenant.

Good Friday liturgy

O God, help us to respect and love your people the Jews.
To pray for them and their needs, and to work with them to further your kingdom.

Nostra Aetate Downloads

Despite being published over forty years ago, this Vatican document lays down principles that are as relevant today as ever – especially with the ongoing tension in the Middle East and around the world. Section 4 is of particular relevance to Catholic-Jewish relations.

The Vatican Declaration on the Relationship of the Church to Non-Christian Religions:

Practical guidance and concrete suggestions for fraternal dialogue:

Cardinal Kurt Koch’s 2012 lecture charting the historical developments in Catholic-Jewish dialogue made possible by the Vatican II document Nostra Aetate. Cardinal Koch is the Head of the Holy See’s Commission for Religious Relations with Jews.

Spiritual Riches – High Holy Days

When Pope Benedict XVI visited the United Kingdom in 2010, he spoke of the “spiritual riches” of other religions. Prayer can help us to explore and appreciate these riches in our tradition and those of others. We have a ‘Spiritual Riches’ series that includes the Jewish High Holy Days.

This A4 download provides explanatory text for parish newsletters, a bidding prayer and background information on the festival.

The High Holy Days are a period beginning with the celebration of ‘Rosh HaShana’, the New Year, and culminating in Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement – the tenth day of the seventh month in the Jewish calendar.
