Holy Land Co-ordination

Our section on the Holy Land Co-ordination.

Bishops from around the world are visiting the Holy Land to promote dialogue and the building of bridges on the 50th anniversary of occupation. The Holy Land Co-ordination runs from 14 - 19 January 2017.

Bishops from across Europe, North America and South Africa visit the vulnerable Christian communities of Gaza, Bethlehem and refugees in Jordan for the 2016 Holy Land Coordination meeting.

This year's Holy Land Co-ordination sees a delegation of 12 bishops, priests and other representatives of the worldwide Church make the annual visit to the lands of Christ's birth and ministry. The programme includes a two-day visit to Gaza before the Bishops meet with representatives of Israeli civil society and policy makers in Tel Aviv. The next stop is Bethlehem, where they will be based for the remainder of the visit. On Tuesday 14 January, the Bishops meet with representatives of Palestinian civil society before meeting students and staff from Bethlehem University. The delegation also visits projects supported by individual Bishops’ Conferences of the Holy Land Co-ordination focusing on education and youth empowerment schemes. There's also a visit to the Cremisan Valley where the planned building of an Israeli security wall threatens the livelihoods of over 50 Christian families based in Beit Sahour and Beit Jala (in the Bethlehem area).
