Following the recent fighting in the Kirkuk area of Iraq, Bishop Declan Lang, chair of the International Affairs department of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, said:

“We pray for peace and join the local Christian community in their call for dialogue between the Iraqi Federal Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.

“Serious negotiations based on mutual respect are essential to building a better future, for a land where all peoples have experienced violence and displacement.

“The Catholic community in England and Wales stands in solidarity with those people of goodwill working to de-escalate this crisis and find a path to peace.”
