Eid al-Adha is an important Isalmic festival. It is the latter of the two Eid holidays – the other being Eid al-Fitr.
It marks the end of the Hajj, or pilgrimage, to Mecca – the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad.
Also known as the ‘Feast of the Sacrifice’, Eid al-Adha commemorates Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his eldest son Ishmael in obedience to God’s command.
The Mt Rev Kevin McDonald, Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Southwark, has recorded a message for Eid al-Adha broadcast on the Islam Channel.
