The Curriculum & Assessment (Wales) Bill was introduced in July 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and school closures in Wales, and has not had proper scrutiny from the public. The Bill also removes the right for parents to withdraw their children from RE/RSE.
The Curriculum and Assessment (Wales) Bill will legislate so that only Church schools will have to teach two types of RE. This means that Catholic schools will need to find additional staffing and resources to duplicate this part of the curriculum and demonstrates a lack of trust in professional in Catholic schools.
The Catholic Church stands up for human rights across the world. We work closely with the local Church in many other countries and their experiences shape our engagement with the UK Foreign Office
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales organises the annual Holy Land Coordination which is mandated by the Holy See, to act in solidarity with region’s Christian communities.
