Advocacy and Campaigns

The Catholic Church in England and Wales actively works for the Common Good of all our society.

On behalf of the Bishops, our Public Affairs Team engages with the UK government and parliament about a wide range of important policy issues. Explore the sections below to learn more about some of our current priorities.

European Citizens - Advocacy

Around 60% of the 3.2 million EU citizens living in the UK are Catholics. Safeguarding the future of everyone who has made their home here is a priority for the Church.

Human Rights - Advocacy

The Catholic Church stands up for human rights across the world. We work closely with the local Church in many other countries and their experiences shape our engagement with the UK Foreign Office

Holy Land - Advocacy

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales organises the annual Holy Land Coordination which is mandated by the Holy See, to act in solidarity with region’s Christian communities.

Prisons - Advocacy

Catholic chaplains, charities and volunteers work in every prison throughout England and Wales – supporting thousands of prisoners and their families every year.

Migrants and Refugees - Advocacy

The Catholic Church is at the forefront of supporting refugees in the UK – including through the Community Sponsorship programme and assistance for asylum seekers.
