UK detention centres “shameful” says Lead Bishop on Migration

Following the HM Inspectorate of Prisons reporting that torture victims were being kept in detention, Bishop Paul McAleenan said the UK government’s effective imprisonment of the most vulnerable in society is "shameful" and that it should end indefinite detention.

CCEE-CEC Joint Committee asks for the Status Quo in Jerusalem to be respected

Following the meeting of the members of the CCEE-CEC Joint Committee in Brussels, from 9-10 March, presidents of the two European ecclesial organisations - Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, CCEE president and Bishop Christopher Hill, CEC president, issued a letter of support to the three leaders of the churches who recently signed a joint statement protesting the proposal of the municipality of Jerusalem to tax the religious buildings.

Death of Archbishop Emeritus Keith Patrick Cardinal O’Brien

At 1am on Monday 19 March 2018, His Eminence Keith Patrick Cardinal O’Brien, Archbishop Emeritus of St Andrews & Edinburgh, died at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle-upon-Tyne surrounded by family and friends and fortified by the rites of Holy Church. He was 80 years old.
