The Archbishop of Southwark, the Most Reverend Peter Smith has written to the Secretary of State for Health, the Rt Hon Mr Jeremy Hunt MP about the Department of Health consultation, Procedures for the Approval of Independent Sector Places for the Termination of Pregnancy.

He expresses his deep concern about the consultation and invites the Secretary of State for Health to “lead a much wider and broader consultation which would enable these very sensitive and difficult issues to be more honestly and openly debated”.

A formal response to the consultation from the Catholic Church has been made by the Anscombe Centre for Bioethics.
