Home Mission Consultation Group

The Home Mission Consultation Group meets twice yearly and exists to support the work of the Home Mission Desk and to share ideas and offer advice about current and future evangelisation initiatives and projects . It is chaired by Bishop Mark O'Toole who is Chair of the Department for Evangelisation and Catechesis.

The membership of the group changes according to the focus of the projects that the Desk is seeking input and advice about.

Some of the groups that have been represented at past meetings include:

Alpha for Catholics

Alpha first ran in a Catholic context after Cardinal Basil Hume invited Alpha pioneers Nicky Gumbel and Sandy Millar to a lead an Alpha conference in 1996 at Westminster Cathedral. In the years following this conference, Alpha was launched globally in the Catholic Church and is now running in thousands of Catholic parishes in over 70 countries around the world.

CAFOD

CAFOD is the official Catholic aid agency for England and Wales. We work with partners across the world, wherever the need is greatest, to bring hope, compassion and solidarity to poor communities, standing side by side with them to end poverty and injustice. We work with people of all faiths and none.

Catholic Evangelisation Services (CaFE)

Since 1996, with encouragement from the Vatican, we at CaFE have been producing a wide variety of modern and attractive DVD resources for Catholics. We now run a range of missions, retreats and events from around the UK, and our CaFE resources are also available in many other English-speaking countries.

Catholic Truth Society

The Catholic Truth Society is a unique Catholic Charity (no. 218951) publishing non-stop since 1868. With its mission to communicate the truths of the Catholic faith, CTS is one of the oldest and most inspiring Catholic organisations existing today.

Keeping In Touch (KIT)

KIT aims to reach out to, welcome and keep in touch with all local Catholics, whether or not they go to church, through home visiting and small group meetings.

Maryvale Institute

Maryvale is both a place of worship and a specialist Institute, providing distance learning opportunities in Catholic Theology, Evangelisation, Catechesis, Philosophy, Ministry and Religious Education at every level from short, informal courses to BAs, MAs and research degrees. The range of levels offered enables students from all backgrounds to develop their full potential and obtain nationally and internationally recognised qualifications.

Missio

Since 1922, Missio has been the Catholic Church's official charity for overseas mission. We bring the hope of the Gospel where there is turmoil, poverty and uncertainty in the world, and where the Church is new, young or poor. Missio empowers local people to form and sustain communities of faith and we train and nurture future leaders so that the vital work of the Church in the world can take place.

Premier Christian Radio

It’s mission is: "...conveying the significance of the life, teaching, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ - as recorded in scripture and expressed in the historic creeds of the Christian faith..."

Seekers Teams, Pantasaph

Each year a team of volunteers runs a series of events for people who are interested in Catholic spirituality but who are not necessarily members of the Church. If you're exploring the big questions in life or are simply intrigued, the events in the Seekers' Programme are likely to be of interest to you.

Sion Catholic Community for Evangelism

Sion Catholic Community for Evangelism is drawn together by God to evangelise. Our Community is Spirit-led, organic, interdependent and committed to each other and to prayer. We are called to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ and to equip others for this task of evangelisation.

Spirit in the City, West End, London

Spirit in the City is a celebration of Christian faith in the heart of London, hosted by the Catholic churches in the West End. The annual festival aims to share the Good news of Christianity, and welcomes people of all faiths, ages and walks of life in the middle of the entertainment district.

Westminster Evangelisation Agency

Among its responsibilities the Agency numbers the support and promotion of ongoing faith formation; the key to our being the formators and evangelisers we are called to be. We are working to help parishes nurture the faith formation of adults, affording all an understanding of what the Church teaches and a vocabulary with which to explain their faith and reach out to others.

Home Mission Desk
Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales

The Home Mission Desk sits within the Department for Evangelisation and Catechesis and acts as a point of reference for evangelisation in dioceses, movements and Catholic organisations in England and Wales. It also helps to develop and produce catechetical resources for the formation of adult faith and coordinates additional projects as instructed by the Department. The Desk is also responsible for responding to enquiries that come in to the Catholic Faith Enquiry Office.
