The Department for Christian Life and Worship advises the Bishops on subjects relating to the material and spiritual life of the Church. A key area of the Department’s work is the liturgy: the preparation and reviewing of liturgical texts and the supporting of liturgical formation in dioceses. The two other main areas of work are Patrimony — the heritage of the Church in England and Wales — and Spirituality. The Chair of the department is Archbishop George Stack of Cardiff.

Since September 2011 Catholics in England and Wales have been using a new translation of the Roman Missal. The translation is based on the 3rd Latin edition of the Missal which was published in 2002. The period of introduction has been an opportunity for Catholics to learn about the background to the translation but also to deepen their love and knowledge of the Eucharist.
