Head of Parish Catechetics - Birmingham

The Archdiocese of Birmingham invites applications for a Head of Parish Catechetics who will take a lead in promoting and supporting faith formation at all levels in the diocese in the context of the New Evangelisation.

The post will be based at Maryvale Institute which is the department of the diocese responsible for the oversight of catechesis and adult Christian formation within the diocesan mission. The successful applicant will play a key role in developing and implementing catechetical policy within the diocesan pastoral plan set out by the Archbishop, and taking particular account of the norms and guidelines of the new General Directory for Catechesis.

Applicants should be practising Roman Catholics, qualified to degree level in Catholic theology, and with a qualification and experience in catechesis. The post will involve substantial travel around the Archdiocese. Applicants should have their own transport and be prepared to work unsocial hours as needed.

The position is open to a suitably qualified and experienced layperson or a professed religious or permanent deacon (subject to the approval of their ecclesiastical superior).

The appointment will be subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure.
